Vasco da Gama Blues: Sunday, November 8th!

I don't think that combat has ever been written about truthfully; it has always been described in terms of bravery and cowardice. I won't even accept these words as terms of human reference any more. And anyway, hell, they don't even apply to what, in actual fact, modern warfare has become. -James Jones, novelist (6 Nov 1921-1977)

Patrick James Dunn This is Cora Lee's preferred pose! Would like to write more but we are off shortly and connectivity is spotty, at best. Cheers to one and all. Hope to send out next installment of diaries this evening so stay tuned!!!

Left at 9:00 am to spend a very pleasant two hours or so driving, mostly along the lake, to Cochin. Biju, our guide, was waiting for us and as soon as we did a bit of unpacking and had freshened up, we drove to the Jewish Synagogue and then the Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, followedby a wonderful lunch of Manchurian prawns, very spicy with loads of garlic! Then a communal laundry, (a dying business as younger people don't bring their laundry here), St Francis Church and finally Chinese fishing nets along the boardwalk.

Hello from Kochi Day 11 and really enjoying trip. Fly tomorrow to Bangalore and then drive to Mysore. Have had a lazy two days first one houseboat with 3 staff and then at Backwater Ripples resort where the boat dropped us off. These areas are along a fresh backwater and the Arabian ocean. Many more tourists than we have seen, often we have been the only non-Indian group. We have had a great driver Hanife. He is Muslim from Chennai and after he drops us off at airport early tomorrow, he will drive 13 hours home.

We will have a few days before we get to Goa and our 4 days at a beach resort. After Goa we fly to Mumbai and begin Golden Triangle part of trip. Sorry for group email but internet service has been very spotty and taking advantage of connection right now. Love to you all, Corinne aka Mom
